Old Breakfast Food Ads
The food ad category features some of the most
creative and interesting ads run in old newspaper ads. Here you
will see some familiar names like Shredded Wheat, Quaker Oats
and Grape Nuts. Others have gone out of business a long time
ago but it sure is fun to see the brands that people used in
that era.

Breakfast products and Cereal ads made
up a large portion of the old newspapers advertising
space. Having a good breakfast was as important back then
as it is today.

Made In Nature's Laboratory – In the whole
wheat berry nature has given man a complete and perfect food
with every element in it for the making of bone, brain and
brawn. The most of these nutritive elements are in the outer
coatings of the wheat kernel. In the modern process of milling
these are cast aside and we get the starch granules in the
shape of “wheat flour” All the nourishing, body-building
elements of the whole wheat are held in natural purity and
presented in digestible form in shredded whole wheat
biscuit.
It is cooked wheat drawn out into fine shreds,
rendering it porous and light without the use of yeast,
baking powder or any other chemical. It is the wheat, the
whole wheat and nothing but the wheat – nothing added to
it and nothing taken away – made in the cleanest, largest
and most hygienic building in the world devoted to food
production. Shredded Whole Wheat Biscuit should be
slightly warmed before serving. It is delicious with cream
or hot milk. It may be made into many palatable dishes in
combination with fruits or vegetables.

Horlick's Malted Milk
for the Seven Ages – is a delicious food-drink, very
nutritious and digestible. It up builds the young, refreshes
and sustains the aged and invalids. More healthful than tea,
coffee or cocoa, as it assists digestion, nourishes and
invigorates. Pure, rich milk with the extract of choice
malted grains, reduced to powder form, soluble in water.
Needs no cooking or addition of milk. A glassful, hot upon
retiring, brings refreshing
sleep.
Unscrupulous Dealers may try to
palm off an imitation, therefore always ask for “Horlick's”
the original and genuine MALTED
MILK.
Breakfast Made Easy -
Pancakes or griddle cakes are as old as the English language
and are likely to endure as
long.
“The flour makes a good griddle cake in
skillful hands, but to some persons lacks character and
taste. Rice by itself is open to the same objection, while
cornmeal goes to the other extreme, and to some palates is
of too coarse or pronounced flavor. A mixture of all three
of these grades blends their
varied flavors
into one taste, to which no exception can be taken by any
one. We sell Hecker's Old
Homestead Pancake, the best to be had. The proper
quantity of raising powder is already added and nothing is left to the
cook to do but moisten with water or milk and bake – a
hungry family will do the rest.” From the Ocala Banner Jan
30, 1903.
